Food vs. Restricted Diet

Oh my.

Like many parents out there, we recently learned we need to re-think how we look at food.  And at this point I'm not sure how that may effect my Fantastic Food Friday posts (which seem to be favorites).

Some of the changes we need to make are ones I've already been doing or trying to do within the scope of budget and picky eaters.  Others are more of a challenge, like needing to find alternatives for rice and potatoes.

So please bear with me as I find a balance and feel free to drop suggestions.

Are the food changes related to Ian?

I haven't used it yet, but I understand the Quinoa is a good alternative.

It's soooo hard to keep kids happy and yet feed them healthy food. We made a new rule this week that the only snack (except for a very occasional treat) after dinner is fruit. You'd think I'd staked them out in the desert to die!

Yeah Mom, we met with the GI doc and have a new limited list, restricted list, and all you can eat list.

I have heard of Quinoa and have seen a couple recipes for it and it's on my list to try, planning to pick up some this weekend.

LOL Joely.

Fruit, popcorn, and Fruit & Veggie Muffins have been our usual snack foods around here. But for this one kiddo, popcorn (all corn for that matter) has been banned, bananas have been banned with apples and pears limited, and while the muffins are still a good choice I'll likely need to play with combos to meet the new restrictions.

I'm just glad I've never been a must have dessert kinda person so the boys don't expect it every night and I actually hear more grumblings in that department from hubby :)

This is a timely post for me. I'm hoping to shed ten pounds by summer. I've been down for a year and hope after my suregery I'll be active and burn more calories, but it doesn't matter how many you burn if you eat high caloric food. Let's see what we can come up with. :)

Oh Ciara don't even get me started on the diet side of things, LOL, both hubby and I need to work on that!

I see lots and lots of experimenting in my future :)
