WiP Wednesday

I'm revising the story I finished in November for NaNo.  I've dealt with character and plot holes (I hope), sketched out scenes I knew were missing plus a few more that are part of an idea that hit me in December after I'd set the story aside to rest a bit.  I'm excited to be working on this again.
  • Goal is to get Let Me Be Your Prince revised and off to Jewels for that first read -- aiming  for March 23rd.
:whew: Scary putting a date on that!

To be accountable, the mini-goals within that larger one are:
  1. Act One by March 2nd -- 15,991 words, calling this pass done
  2. Act Two part One by March 9th -- 12,868 words, not done
  3. Act Two part Two by March 16th -- 7092 words :snort: I cut more than I kept and so not done
  4. Act Three by March 23rd -- 9435 words, see above comment :head desk:
I'm aiming for 15,000 to 18,000 words per finished section for a finished draft of 60,000 to 72,000 words.

What I learned...putting a deadline on myself for revisions, at least these revisions, was a huge mistake.  Ended up procrastinating more than working which frustrates me to no end because I really love these characters and really want their story to shine.  So I continue but likely won't be updating.

Deadlines only work for me if someone is expecting something from me--like a crit partner or an editor.

When you're made responsible for someone else's time, it makes you work harder to meet a deadline so you're not an imposition on those counting on you. If you know you can always scoot the date further down, it's easy to put it off.

Ain't that the truth! LOL, oh well, it'll get done. I'd hoped my trying to get it done for Jewels would have been enough but alas it wasn't.

Sherri, I saw your post on Liz and looked up your site. You write well. I've been editing my ms for seven months now. I read somewhere it takes as long to edit if not longer. Good luck.

Orlando, thanks for stopping by. I'm mostly learning with this MS but I still want it to be the best it can be.

Sherri,

Even though you say you don't like deadlines, I'm impressed with how much you've done since November! Wish I could say the same.

LOL, thanks Liz, I think my accomplishments look better on the blog than IRL.

I need to get this one done and off to Jewels so I can start the next one, have 4 others rolling around in my head!

So even if I don't post I have a new deadline of Coyote Con. Glutton, I'm I glutton for punishment, LOL

Yes! What Maria said!

See? This is the reason why I can't set my clock as being ten minutes later than it actually is and expect that to work. I can't "trick" myself if I know I'm the only one I have to answer to. Screw that! I'm not the boss of me!...Wait.

Though, even if you didn't make your exact goal, I'd say you still made fantastic progress. Good luck with the new deadline!

Dang...I forgot when you do the open ID thing it shows the username not the name on the blog. Stupid OpenID....

That last comment was me, by the way. *sheepishgrin*

LOL, SJ, thanks for clarifying.

I used to be good with setting the clock five minutes ahead, then I became a SAHM and everything went out the window!

The revisions are going much better now that I'm not trying update each week and it's only been a few days. What's up with that? LOL
