Challenge: Blog about a childhood memory you have, good or bad. Sentimental or sappy, whatever you choose.
There are a couple memories that stand out right now:
1: This one likely stands out because of the Kids’n Power seminar we went to. It made me think about the things we used to do growing up that I’d never let my kids do today. We lived on a cul-de-sac for a number of years when I was growing up and one of the activities we did was play hide-n-seek on a warm summer evening using the light post as home base. We purposely dressed in dark cloths. We could hide anywhere on the cul-de-sac as long as we didn’t get into vehicles, go into houses or backyards. Often the adults were out there playing with us but I can remember times where it was just us kids (the oldest being about 17 and the youngest about 6-7). We had a blast. We usually played for a couple hours. Our cul-de-sac was just blocks from a major freeway on ramp and potential disaster if someone bent on harm was in the neighborhood. But it was a different world back then.
2: This one likely stands out because I’m having huge issues in the disciplinary department especially with Cam right now. I know a lot is my own fault for not being as consistent as I should be. I know a lot of it is Cam’s attitude…he’s either up or down with no middle ground. When he’s down he can bring the whole family down. Growing up, I’m sure I got in trouble. But I only remember one spanking and that was in a time when spanking was the form of discipline and not punished by a night in jail. It’s a silly story too and maybe that’s why it sticks in my mind. My sister and I were playing in my room one afternoon. I had one of those sliding closet doors and it was a heavy sucker too. Well, my sister was going in one end of the closet for something and I knew I could get it easier from the other side…BHAM…I nailed my sister with the closet door. She of course promptly started screaming bloody murder which coincided with my Dad walking in the door after a long, hard day at work. Needless to say my sister and I were taken over his knee. He spanked me for closing the door on my sister and spanked my sister for getting in the way of the door. We all laugh about it now though I doubt any of us thought it was funny at the time.

What cute memories. My kids always played hide-n-seek on the block (and still do sometimes). We call it "manhunt". The older kids watch out for the younger ones. They stay out there for hours!
