What do you have against Las Vegas, Mr. President?

Today, during a town hall meeting, the president talked about the need to curb spending.
When times are tough, you tighten your belts. You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college.

Wow...just wow. You would have thought he'd have learned from the fallout of his last careless comment.

We have one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. Foreclosures are through the roof. Our education budget is in the toilet...tonight's news reported that some of the colleges and universities may have to actually close, already some have capped enrollment.

Yes, Mr. President, people do need to think before spending, especially in times like this. However, you seriously need to back off Las Vegas!

The President needs to lay off Las Vegas and stop making it the poster child for where people shouldn't be spending their money. ~Senator Reid

Las Vegas is suffering through one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, and we cannot afford for the President to bring us down any further. ~ Senator Ensign

And on a more personal note:

Tourism is the number one economic stimulus for Southern Nevada and for many cities and states across the country. While we appreciate Las Vegas is top of mind for the President, we would ask that he offer words of encouragement instead of criticism. ~Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority President & CEO Rossi Ralenkotter

oh please! The president isn't trying to stomp Las Vegas into the earth by this comment. Mr. Obama speaks in metaphors and was simply pointing out that gambling is not the smartest thing for American's to go and do if they have no money. Yes we need jobs and yes Nevada has one of the highest rates of unemployement, but really???? Do you honestly think he is single handedly trying to bring down one of the states! He is looking at the big picture and trying to get people to be accountable for what they have and do not have. It is imperative for people to take accountability for their own actions, instead of blaming each other.
all my love though!

Be nice if you signed your name...

I like Obama.

I don't have the numbers on hand but after his last comment we had a huge drop in conventions -- which directly affected our livelihood. And no I don't think he is single handedly trying to hurt the state but he does need to think before speaking. I don't see other cities being singled out to the degree Las Vegas has!

To be fair...I probably wouldn't have even noticed if I didn't live here. But I do, I lived through the fallout last year, and fully expect more fallout.
